BACKGROUND
Tourism is one of the
world’s largest industries, with annual revenue of $500 billion. The World Travel
and Tourism Council estimated an annual growth of 4.6 percent between 2003 and
2013. Lower cost of air travel, as well as increasing leisure time and
disposable income, will continue to drive tourism growth. Thus, there is an
urgent demand for highly skilled professionals in tourism industry who could seize
opportunities and create new value, especially in the “emerging market” countries.

To establish a close link with on-the-job issues, challenges, latest development, and trends in the travel and tourism industry faced by industry professionals as well as executives in emerging markets today.

The Program is designed for beginning professionals in the tourism & hospitality businesses, policy makers & officials, tourism educators & trainers, the professionals from the interregional organizations with interest in tourism & hospitality industry, and industry executives & representatives of multinational firms.
Criteria: Bachelor’s degree
1 to 2 years of relevant
working experience
Intermediate to
proficiency level of English
Duration: 14 months, includes:

2 months of Advanced English Training for Tourism,
·
2 days of English Training after the completion of
each module,
·
12 months of instructional hours, and
·
1-month study trip in the United States or Europe.

Instructional methods include conceptual and application learning, classroom lecture and discussion sessions, case studies, contemporary issues speakers, analysis and presentation. The Program includes presentations by experts from prominent universities and international tourism corporations/institutions/associations combining academic excellence with practical experience.
An overseas study trip will be
organized towards the end of the Program. The month-long study trip will cover
2 modules. There will also be company/local enterprise visits and allows
participants to meet top executives, professionals and officials from the
region and issue dialogue on relevant tourism issues. The participants will visit some of the region’s most important and best managed
companies.
The two-month Advanced
English Training and Tutorials are an integral component of WTU’s Executive MBA
Program in Tourism. With the growing importance of the tourism and hospitality industries, knowing how to
communicate professionally in English is quickly becoming a necessity in the
sectors. Language skills, specialist terminology and many other aspects of the industry will
be taught through focused reading and writing activities, and carefully guided
listening and speaking tasks. Knowing how to provide the best service to
clients and guests is the hallmark of professionalism. The English for Tourism course is
designed for the participants who have an Intermediate to Proficiency level of
English and focuses on preparing them with the language and skills needed for success in the
tourism and hospitality industries.

The Program is designed for the middle- and
upper-level managers in the tourism & hospitality businesses, policy makers
and officials, tourism educators & trainers, the professionals from the
interregional organizations with interest in tourism & hospitality
industry, and industry executives & representatives of multinational firms.
Criteria: Bachelor’s degree or higher
5 years or more of working experience
Duration: 2 weeks (10-days); 8 lectures
Curriculum:
There will be approximately 48 hours of lecture hours in total. The Program includes presentations by experts from universities and tourism-related businesses combining academic excellence with practical experience. Synthesis sessions are hour-long platforms for open discussion of issues raised in the lectures. The conferences provide additional venues for a dialogue on topics in tourism that are most important to the local market. Company visits are held to give the participants additional opportunities for personal exposure and to interact with other industry professionals who hold vast ranges of experiences. This broadens the outlook and also provides leadership building. The participants gain knowledge, information and enriching interactions on themes and issues that affect the tourism industry.
