Trade
policy is the convergence of politics, law and commerce. When
governments negotiate multilateral trade treaties or participate
in multilateral trade organizations they are bound by particular
international trade laws. Such laws must be incorporated into
domestic laws in order to have effect and assure the smooth
interaction of government and business, which is so important in
the era of globalization.
Assisting
governments negotiate international rules that accurately
reflect and accommodate the business world, and integrate these
rules into domestic law requires strong trade policy skills such
as trade negotiation, policy analysis and formation, statistical
analysis and advocacy for business interests.
WTU
offers two tracks in Diploma Program in Trade Policy for those
who require education
on concepts and patterns in international trade:

The Diploma Program in Trade Policy
(the Beginning
Professionals Track)

The Diploma Program in Trade Policy
(the Mid-Career Professionals Track)
The
Beginning Professionals Track
is designed
for
those whose background is related to international trade law,
but have not yet received practical experience in that field.
The participants will be instructed in international trade
terminology with care and detail. The program will also help
them learn to synthesize their information, so that they have a
sufficient understanding of international trade.
The
Mid-Career
Professionals Track
is
designed for
lawyers
and judges, government officials, business executives, and
policy analysts,
who have some understanding of international
trade concepts. It builds on the practical experience of the
participants in order to help them enhance their existing skills
and transfer them to the trade policy sphere to address the most
current problems in international trade law.
