About WTU: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is the WSYE events necessary or important to be held? How are they evaluated?

The World Summit of Young Entrepreneurs (WSYE) is a United Nations Global Partnership Programme involving governments, multilateral agencies, and multinational corporations to define, shape, and influence the timeliest issues concerning emerging young entrepreneurs globally. The WSYE recognizes and builds upon the knowledge that by 2010, over 75% of the world’s population will be under the age of 30.  We must prepare for this extraordinary demographic shift and its implication to the ‘Global Economic Processes’.

What are the event’s primary goals and desired outcomes?
Against the backdrop of ‘Global Economic Processes Towards Economic Growth and Development’, the WSYE celebrates its 9th anniversary with the theme “Let’s Make a New Deal”.

The 9th WSYE will engage approximately 200 highly select entrepreneurs from over 50 countries who will be provided with this rare opportunity to take part in other UNCTAD XI events.  The WSYE is organized in partnership with various United Nations Agencies and leading private sector corporations.

Since its inception in 1993, the Summits have involved more than 2,100 young entrepreneurs and emerging enterprises with backgrounds ranging from agricultural production to pharmaceutical R&D.  In addition to workshop discussions and plenary sessions led by noted business experts, the Summit incorporates various business matchmaking occasions, such as the "Virtual Trade Show" and "Let’s Make a Deal" sessions, to increase the exposure of young firms in export and import markets, and to facilitate the creation of international joint ventures.   A vibrant entrepreneurial sector is essential to young enterprises development.  Forward thinking and progressive entrepreneurs drive business dynamics and fuel overall economic growth.
